WorkCover Success Story – City of Greater Bendigo


City of Greater Bendigo engaged P2 Group in June 2014 to conduct a gap analysis of the Council’s internal injury management process. The aim was to enhance the injury management process and build a strong early intervention focus. The following year in November 2015, P2 was appointed to commence working with the Council on WorkCover and Non-WorkCover related injuries (Physical & Psychological). Injury Management Guidelines and kits were produced and the P2 Occupational Therapists began assessing injured workers and assisting the Council with advanced return to work strategies. For those workers with early warning signs, care plans were developed to encourage the workers to remain at work and remain connected with their workmates.

In May and June 2016, P2 conducted Injury Management Workshops to train HR and line managers on best practice injury management, early intervention strategies and how to analyse WorkCover claims costs. P2 also defined and documented the Inherent Requirements of Jobs for the Council.

P2 also started the conversation about Mental Health conditions and better ways to support workers.

At the beginning of the engagement (2015/16)  the Council’s WorkCover rate was 51.21% worse than Industry Average. Currently, the Council’s WorkCover rate is 58.17% better than Industry Average. WorkSafe Victoria has confirmed City of Greater Bendigo is the best performing Council in Victoria as per below;
